Features of Microsoft Excel that assist in Analysis of Financial Data

Success is by no means guaranteed in the business world. However, all business-minded individuals will certainly utilize a variety of different tactics to ensure a win-win situation. Analysis of finances is a key aspect of managing a business, whether consideration needs to be given to future business investments, ways of meeting financial obligations or simply to monitor performance of the company. Traditionally, these objectives were accomplished using a pen, paper and a calculator. In the modern business world, we have the benefit of access to computer applications to streamline these processes.

Excel is an example of an effective spreadsheet program used by financial analysts, project managers and business owners to process financial data. As new editions of Microsoft Excel become available, tools are added to the software to better assist in the analysis of financial data. In a high pressured environment, the aim is to save time, reduce errors and ultimately improve outcomes.

The List Command

Users of Excel will be experienced in using the software to sort and filter data and also to perform calculations. A list in Excel is defined as a series of rows that contain related data and has been designated to function as a datasheet. The data contained within the list can be analysed independently without affecting the rest of the worksheet.

It is therefore possible to generate reports which are targeted to specific areas of interest. This is particularly important when dealing with large or complex worksheets. Having the ability to separate your data into distinct sets offers increased flexibility and thereby allows financial calculations to be performed more quickly.

The Web Query Feature

Financial analysis often involves inputting data from various sources, including the internet. Rather than inputting new data manually, the Web Query feature enables data to be imported directly from a website into a worksheet. This is most useful if the data is contained within a table or a preformatted area. Time is saved and efficiency is therefore improved.

PivotTable Reports

A PivotTable report is defined as an interactive, cross-tabulated report that summarises and analyses data from various sources. It is easy to set up using the PivotTable wizard. The report can be used to assist in the analysis of financial data by enhancing your ability to detect trends and relationships.

Conditional Formatting

Conditional formatting can be used to highlight variances amongst data and thereby assist in the analysis of large amounts of data. By applying a format such as cell shading or font colour to a particular cell, it is possible to quickly identify areas that require more attention from the appropriate department or individual.

These are just some of the features of Excel that can be used by individuals to assist in the analysis of financial data. Microsoft Excel training provides an opportunity to fully explore these features and subsequently, allow individuals to use Excel more successfully in a professional environment.

Using Multimedia in PowerPoint Presentations

The radio uses a combination of sounds and speech. Newspapers use a combination of text and images. Television combines all these elements with the aim of enhancing communication and understanding. This combination of visual and audio media for the purpose of communicating is referred to as multimedia.

Studies have shown that multimedia presentations, using Microsoft PowerPoint for example, are an effective tool for encouraging retention of information. Educators often make use of presentations to teach students new concepts. In the business environment, presentations are often used as a sales tool. However, it is essential that multimedia technology is used appropriately to ensure successful outcomes. Let us consider some of the ways of using multimedia in a PowerPoint presentation.

Adding Movies and Sound

Advanced level training will cover options for playing sounds and movies during a PowerPoint presentation. Possibilities include playing sounds and movies continuously throughout the slide show, across several sequential slides and only when clicking on a sound or movie image.

Clip Art

The term clip art refers to pictures or images that can be imported into a document, such as a PowerPoint presentation. Graphics can be used more effectively to deliver a particular message than text alone.

Clip art is available in two different file formats: bitmap or vector graphics. Bitmap file formats describe images, such as scanned photographs, that are made up of a grid of multicoloured or black and white pixels. These images are limited in quality by their resolution. Vector file formats describe an image as a series of points, lines, curves and polygons using geometric modelling. A crisp image is generated which is usually superior in resolution when compared to bitmap graphics. By understanding the difference between file formats, clip art users can select the appropriate image file to achieve the desired result.

When using clip art, it is important to be aware of copyright and usage rights so that an image is used in a legal way. Clip art can be added to a PowerPoint presentation in a number of ways. By receiving advanced level training, the user can learn to use the software in the most effective way.

Using animations

In the context of Microsoft PowerPoint, animations refer to the movement of text boxes, bullet points or images onto a slide during a slide show. When used sparingly in PowerPoint presentations, animations can effectively add emphasis to a particular point. Users of PowerPoint can choose between using Preset Animation Schemes or Custom Animations. Advanced level PowerPoint training will teach users how to use animation schemes to maximum effect.

Using scanned images

When using scanned images in PowerPoint presentations, it is important to remember that the greater the image size, the longer it takes to load and display the image. Advanced level training will cover procedures for selecting the appropriate resolution for a scanned image and appropriate file formats.

Incorporating multimedia technology appropriately into presentations has been shown to achieve beneficial outcomes. By attending PowerPoint advanced courses, it is possible for the user to learn how to maximise the multimedia capabilities of the software.

Keeping Your Networks Secure

Computer security is an ever present concern that evolves constantly. One reason why computers and the programs we use are so vulnerable is that they are incredibly complex. The more complex they become, the more likely they are to have security gaps.

On the other hand, the more they can store and do, the more we value them. With so much potential for doing things locked within every computer and program, it shouldn’t be surprising that a clever computer hacker can manipulate or break codes to wreak havoc on the whole system. This is why we also need security systems. Unlike the programs that they protect, security systems are valuable because of how many things they make hard to do.

If your company uses a network of computers to store, transfer and process information, you can’t afford to leave that system vulnerable to attacks. New viruses and worms come out every year and without the right protection, your computers could be among the millions that are knocked completely out of commission.

In addition to blocking harmful viruses, it is just as important to guard against invaders who want to access confidential information about your business and your clients. Hackers are among the most innovative group of computer geeks in the world. If there’s a vulnerability anywhere in any of your systems, they can find it.

Ways to Keep Your Network Secure and Running

There are many ways to tighten security on computer networks. A few forms of protection include anti-virus software, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), information encryption, and user authentication safe guards. Armed with these tools, your Dallas network security will be a discouraging target for predators.

One thing to keep in mind though when you start the task of securing your system is the need for network security in addition to individual computer security. You may have armed each computer with a couple different kinds of protection, but if even one computer becomes infected with a virus or a worm, the problem will quickly spread to all the computers within your network.

If you and your staff don’t have the expertise to diagnose security weaknesses in your network and provide the necessary remedies, there are many professionals who can. If you want, they can also maintain the systems they service. Network security is vital to your businesses success. Be sure you don’t go with amateurs.

What to Look for in a Network Security Specialty Firm

When it comes to network security, it’s hard to argue with a strong record of success. Watch for a network security company that has a list of happy clients. The larger the client, the larger target they probably are for hackers, so big names are a good thing.

Security testing is another key factor. No network can be made 100% secure and still be usable. A good firm will employ computer specialists whose job it is to hack systems. Through these means, they’ll find and weaknesses in a system and be able to work towards securing it.

Importance of Network Security System

In today’s technologically advanced world, computers play a dominant role. No matter you are at work, in studies at college or school, or just enjoying a leisurely time in your home, it is certain that you may either switch on your computer or any other related state of the art devices. The importance of computer is further enhanced by increased usage of the internet.

However, it is important to ensure that while you use the internet you also maintain the good health of the device that has been used for connecting to the web. It is estimated that when you connect your computer network to the internet, you are physically linking your computer to over 50,000 unfamiliar networks as well as their users.

Despite the fact that it can open avenues to a number of useful applications and provide options for information sharing, many of the private networks consist of certain information that should not be shared with outside users on the web, which may sometimes result in application layer attacks, IP spoofing, DNS cache poisoning, password attacks, and man in the middle attacks.

Even though the internet has made security system of computer networks a top priority in many of the mainstream technology periodicals, most of the people across the globe do not know the importance of network security system. Network security system is an essential component of the configuration as well as network management. Implementation of effective network security provides both physical and information security to paths, links, and databases.

Network security is simply a process or action adopted to detect as well as prevent unauthorized usage of your computer. In other words, network security is a technique in the form of some kind of software, which safeguards the primary networking infrastructure from illegal access, malfunction, misuse, destruction, alteration, or improper disclosure. This in turn provides a safe platform for computers, programs, and users to carry out their allowable significant functions within a protected environment.

In short, network security is a prominent feature of the network ensuring accountability, confidentialty, integrity, and above all protection against many external and internal threats such as email based network security problems, denial of service network security attacks, worms and trojans, and wireless network security attacks.

Depending upon the usage of a network, different types of network security software are available. For examples, some of the most suitable options for home users would be security software systems such as firewalls and encryptions. Installing a firewall in your computer is a great way to prevent unscrupulous things from getting into your computer.

Further, a firewall can detect and prevent almost all bad things that cannot be detected by antivirus software. Firewall is available in a variety of forms including personal firewall software, Windows Firewall, and the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall. Encryption is a method of protecting computer data in such a way that it is readable only if you have the right decoding key. Whether you are accessing an email or an e-commerce site, encryption ensures utmost security of your personal network.

Different types of network security also include authentication, Intrusion Detection System (IDS), email security, and web access control. One of the specialties of authentication is that it prevents authorized users from accidentally accessing other users’ resources. Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is designed in such a way that it alerts administrators or system managers to know whether a trouble is from an external or internal source.

IDS may be network-based, application-based, host-based, or anomaly-based. The prime function of an anti-virus is to trace out potential viruses before it reaches the internal servers as well as networks. A good anti virus software can also detect viruses that come with the body of an email as well as attachments. When comes to email security, it is to ensure that not any sensitive information is leaked.

Let it be of any type, an effective network security system can undoubtedly fetch you a host of benefits such as improved productivity, enhanced control and visibility, improved usage of IT resources, utmost protection as well as security of data, and legislative compliance. Adoption of a good network security system also ensures that only right personnel have the right level of access.

All You Wanted To Know About Laser Toners

Most of us are aware of the significance of the laser toners in a printer. More or less a laser toner is the key part in any laser printer. With invent of the laser printer, we can get high quality prints in a blink of an eye and that too in a very cost effective manner.

The quality of the prints depends on the quality of the toner, as the toner is actually the ink for laser printers.

The toner is an extremely fine synthetic powder packed into a cartridge. This cartridge is then inserted into your laser printer according to the manufacturer’s instructions. And this is where the role of such toner comes into picture.

Let us understand in short the role of these toners as soon as a page is inserted in the printer. There are a few steps in printing a page with the help of a laser toner:

In the first step, printer receives an image to be printed from your computer.

The lasers project the image onto an electromagnetic drum inside the printer.

According to the image, the drum is charged positively and negatively, and at varying levels of charge.

The drum in turn attracts ink from the toner in the cartridge according to the charges the colors are attracted to.

The drum rolls the image onto a page of paper, the page goes through a heating device to melt or burn the color onto the page, and the page is ejected.

This is when the toner is used in the printer. Most of the toners are designed to print a few thousand pages before needing to be replaced. Similarly, the drum also wears out from all the positive and negative charges it gives off, and needs to be replaced every 10,000 to 30,000 pages.

Some printers are made with cartridge-and-drum replacement units in mind, while other printers are designed to separate the cartridge and drum. This way, when the cartridge runs out of toner, you don’t have to replace the longer lasting drum with it. This saves you money.

There is a huge ongoing debate on the use of compatible toners. They are widely used besides the printer companies regular warnings on the illegal aspects and the harms they can cause to the printer.

However, besides such warnings, the compatible toners are now a days common forcing the companies to change their stance and to launch economically priced toners.

Most manufacturers, and some third-party distributors, will give you money or discounts in exchange for your old toner cartridges. They in turn replace the guts of the cartridge, refill it with toner, and resell it at a big discount.

Laser toner can be expensive, messy to replace and annoying! Find tips, best deals and other info on Laser-Toner.org.

A Purchase Guide For Notebooks

The term Notebook computers and laptop computer is often used interchangeably. However notebook computers are smaller, lighter and costlier than laptop computers. You can carry this computer with you when you are away on a business trip, can watch movies and access internet also.

The first notebook computer which was launched in the market in 1981 was expensive and was not as versatile like present day computers .Portable versions of laptops were launched in the market by IBM and Epsom in 1983.

With introduction of Windows 95, the world of notebook computers took a giant leap forward and was now able to compete with other personal computers because of the operating system and the advancement of technology. Prices of these computers started falling, attracting more consumers. Life of battery improved and acids were no longer required. The notebook computers now consumed less power and could hold more data.

Notebook computers come in various sizes. For a quick reference, have a look at the following figures (without power adaptors and accessories): Tablet PC - it weighs less that 3 lbs; Ultra Portable - it weighs less than 4 lbs and less than 1.3 inches thick with size between 10 and 11 inches; Thin and Light - it is between 1 and 1.4 inches thick and weighs between 5 to 7 lbs with size from 11 to 14 inches; Desktop replacements (Largest) - it is 1.5 inches thick and heavier than 7 lbs. Size between 11 and 13 inches.

Some important points are listed here which may help you to have an informed purchasing decision:

Size and Weight: The point to remember that while choosing a very lightweight and small size, you may have to sacrifice some items such as drives. So you have to decide what you want.

Processor: Note book processors perform like desktop processors. Dual core processors carry multitasking and are common. Notebook processors directly impact the battery life and performance of the computers. For Intel premier processor, higher the number, the faster it will process. The rotational speed of the disk also affects the performance of these computers.

Memory (RAM): For Windows XP and Mac OS X, at least 256 MB is required. However the capacity of RAM is increasing with new varieties of notebook computer and in some machines it is 2 GB even!

Displays and Video: In a notebook computer video consists of video processor and display. Again the display consists of native resolution and screen size. But portability will be reduced with larger display. These days the popularity for the wide screen displays is increasing. Performance of PC gaming and 3D graphics will be determined by graphic processor.

Drives: Optical drives play an important role in notebook computers. These may be simple CD ROM drives to the high definition DVD burners. Most notebook computers these days are equipped with a dual layer DVD burner.

Connections: Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, Fujitsu lifebook N6010 having trimode of 802.11a/b/g, etc are different wireless system available with notebook computers. Transferring rate of data depend on the type of wireless connection chosen.

Battery Life: Notebook computers come with four cell, 6 cell, and 8 cell batteries. Normal battery life is 2 to 3 hours. However 5 or 6 hours battery life is also available these days. Generally, the bigger the notebook computer, the lower is the battery life.

Warranty Plans: Make sure that you get at least one year warranty from the manufacturer while choosing your notebook computer. A system having a three year warranty will be a better choice if you are going to use your computer extensively.

It is suggested that you should update your knowledge periodically by logging onto the net keeping in mind the factors which need to be checked as stated above.

Beware The Anti Virus Scanner Scam!

There are many reputable anti virus software companies out there. Some are well known brands that you can see both online and off. Their software is considered among the best. Then there are those who are not so widely known that are just as good, but only available online, and in some cases, only available as freeware. Others offer a scanner, but not the cleaner in a demo mode.

Then there are the total scammers. These are among the prolific of theives online. Their scam often catches the unwary, the illiterate, the easily panicked. Some of these so called virus scanners have been nothing more than clever frauds. Still others have been clever attempts at identity theft as they scan the victim’s computer for financial information or user names and password information.

Then there are still others that start as a trojan that mislead the victims into “purchasing” the scammer’s software to get rid of the virus. In one sense, this spells double trouble. How? The victim buys a fake software that can be more dangerous as it can lead to the victim’s identity theft. It may get rid of the virus or just the message, but plants others in its place.

It should also be noted that this scam is growing very fast. Scammers and would be thieves are using this type of scam more often than one would believe.

One of the more recent versions of this scam (called the MonaRonaDona scam) uses a different approach. The victim’s computer is infected by a trojan. This trojan can be from a website, an e-mail, or a pop up. The trojan pops up a message that notifies the user of its existence. The user may research it and find a number of blogs, message board, or stories ,etc. on this.

All of these fake entries direct the use to fake anti virus software to get rid of the trojan. The software may in fact turn off the message (thereby “cleaning the victim’s computer”) but it may also be scanning for information or planting more of the viruses it is supposed to be cleaning.

Anti virus experts have also found a link to a registry cleaner program that itself was found to be a fraud.

Where this one becomes different is how the scam is being promoted. That promotion is being done on social networking and video sharing sites. The bogus blog entries, etc. are set up on these sites as a type of waning. The result is that a large number of people have fallen victim to this fraud.

To avoid scams like this, here are a few tips:

Purchase a good anti virus and anti spyware software. One that offers a firewall would be even more preferrable. Once you install it keep it updated. A good idea is to set it to auto update.
It is also a good idea to manually update your software once in a while to ensure that it is working properly.

Do not click on any popup that advertises anti virus or anti spyware software. Many viruses often come from popups. A good tip here is to install a good pop up blocker. You should also avoid any sites that are questionable, especially ones that promise the world. Another reason to avoid questionable sites is that they are often filled with malicious codes. Sometimes these malicious codes are auto downloaded.

A final note is that you should never download any freeware software unless you are certain it is from a reputable company. Many of these freeware programs are nothing more than viruses in disguise.

Is Your Computer Safe Offline?

Probably one the biggest notions among computer users is that if they are not online, they are safe from identity theft. Their reasoning is that, if they are offline, they are not vulnerable to phishing, viruses, malware, hackers, etc. While, it is true that being offline would protect them from such things, to fall into the belief that they are safe is being somewhat blind to other possibilities for id theft.

Even people who are connected to the Internet fall into a false sense of security. How? Computer users think that once they install a firewall, get adware, malware, and virus protection. Throw into all that, phishing protection. They get lulled into that invulnerable feeling. They think they are safe.

But are they? Among the many ways to steal data from a computer is through the peripheral data ports. They can be hooked up to printers, external disk drives, etc. Still another way to steal data has been the use of cds or floppy disks. This is done by actually stealing the disks themselves or dumping data onto them. In most cases, this can be done without the computer’s owner ever knowing.

Along the same ideas, hard drives can be stolen or broken into. This is alot easier than one might think. Here’s how. Hard drives fail. There’s nothing that can be done about that. We get them replaced, reload the software, and move on with our lives.

But what about that old hard drive? Even if it has crashed, data can still be harvested from it. In some cases, it is not easily done. There are softwares written to help map the crashed disk and retrieve information off of it. This software is used by legitimate, reputable companies as a means of data reclamation for their clients. It is also used by thieves to steal personal and company data.

Another way to break into a computer involves the thief using his or her own floppy disk or cd to boot your system. With this method, they can bypass your security features and gain direct access to your data.

Even more recently, with the advent of flash drives, it is easier to steal data and conceal it. These small devices are roughly the same size as a man’s finger and are hard to detect when concealed. They can be stolen or lost very easily due to their small size.

When it comes to dealing with these issues, many businesses are removing the extra disk drives from computer work stations. They are also networking their printers, etc. to monitor information flow.

Hard drives can be rendered totally useless by drilling holes in the cases and drives. Still another way to do this is by burning the hard drive.

Certain types of flash drives are being built with security features in place to aid in preventing theft. By using a security system which encrypts the data, it adds a measure of protection not offered by Microsoft. This encryption feature is called Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) symmetric encryption. It is considered to be the best encryptions systems for flash drives. It should also be noted that it is not the only form of encryption available. Many versions of encryption are designed with the user in mind (I.E. ease of use).

The final problem deals with the users themselves. Often times, the user will be careless with with their user name and password information. They sometimes will paste it to their computer or somewhere close to it. In this case, it is always best to either commit this information to memory or store it in a very secure place.

Save Money When You Buy Ink Cartridges for Your Printer

It is definitely convenient to have a printer at home. If everything goes smoothly school assignments, letters, speeches, recipes, pictures and business material can all be printed off in a matter a seconds. But how much should you pay for the printer ink cartridges that make the whole process possible?

Printer ink cartridges can vary a lot in price from place to place. Just doing a quick search online for my own printer ink cartridges, I discovered that one company offered to sell me a precious little cartridge of ink for a mere $100 while another company only asked me to fork over about $13. I don’t know about you, but a $13 price tag is much more attractive to me than a $100 price tag — especially when the product I’m buying is exactly the same thing. Shop around at different stores for the same product, and you are sure to find lower prices.

In addition to trying different stores, you can also try a couple different products. It is always safe to buy printer ink cartridges specifically called for by the printer you own, but it is possible to save even more money by choosing an ink cartridge that has been designed to replace your name-brand option. A lot of consumers opt to stay away from alternate ink cartridges because they are worried about getting stuck with lower quality. After all, it seems reasonable to expect less quality with the lower price. But, since I found the exact same name-brand product selling for different prices, it means that lower costs do not always mean lower quality.

To help dispel customer fears, a good alternate printer ink cartridge supplier will provide the appropriate credentials to assure their customers that they sell quality products. One of the credentials they may offer is ISO9000 certification. ISO9000 is a family of standards maintained by the International Organization of Standardization. Some of the requirements they hold to include regularly reviewing individual processes and quality systems for their effectiveness and making corrections accordingly as needed. This means that the products they certify have been tested and proved both effective and reliable.

Myths like inferior quality, ink clogging and equipment damage — all resulting from alternate ink cartridges — scare consumers into buying pricier printer ink cartridges for their home and office printers. Since alternate printer cartridges can be so much cheaper than name-brands, trying them out won’t be a risky investment. And then, if you find them as serviceable as the expensive ones, you can save money year after year.

USA Ink Tank (http://www.usainktank.com/index.php) is ISO9000 certified and supplies alternate printer ink cartridges for Cannon, Epson and Apple printers at the most affordable prices. Art Gib is a freelance writer.

Proxies and Proxy Sites - What and Why?

Though a common term in the computer age today, it needn’t bring out doubt in users. We all know what a proxy is, something that’s used instead of the real thing, especially when it comes to dubious deals where you send a proxy to carry out an intended act instead of the real person.

Similarly in the world of servers, proxy servers are fast gaining popularity. A closed proxy can be accessed by limited people and permits using someone else’s computer to conceal your identity and/or location. An open proxy refers to a proxy server that can be accessed by anyone who uses the Internet.

By and large, a proxy server permits users in a particular network group to accumulate and further internet services such as DNS or web pages. Consequently their bandwidth usage is lessened and controlled. In case of any open proxy, however, every user on the Internet can avail of this forwarding service.

The open proxies, also known as anonymous open proxies, allow users to hide their true IP address from the service they access. In fact the use of proxies has at times been intended to abuse or disrupt a service. This obviously includes breaking its terms of service or the law.

For such reasons open proxies have been viewed as problematic from time to time. They have been under severe scrutiny because school children, as well as office staff have been known to use it time and again to access restricted sites during work hours.

The use of proxies can work to your advantage as it ensures that no one can take advantage of you in this visual world. This is very true in reference to users who use social forums on a daily basis. Users may be getting onto such sites to gain knowledge, learn about latest developments or also increase their social networking base, but there are always those who are on the prowl to find the vulnerable and easy targets.

And just incase you’re targeted your life could be a mess. Your credit card accounts could be tampered with, someone would know all your details and you could be stalked or black mailed and worse still you’d find yourself visiting sites and forums which you never have.

You could even be made the next porn star. For your identity to be protected and enhancement of online security, the use of proxies works just fine. This permits you to access facebook, hotmail, youtube, and others without a worry.

These may be popular as fun sites, but they also promote educational needs, helping you learn along the way or even have a secure social networking group you can depend on. Along the way you can make alliances that can assist you in getting a job, help make business or even make a friend. The opportunities are endless, as long as you keep yourself safe from prowlers.

A computer can be run on an open proxy server without the owner knowing this. This is possible because of misconfiguration of proxy software used in a particular computer. Malware, viruses, trojans or worms are all used for this purpose. Open proxies are slow, as slow as 14400 baud (14.4 kbit/s), or even below 300 baud. At times they could keep alternating between fast to slow every minute. PlanetLab proxies are quicker and were deliberately put in place for public use.

Despite the popularity of proxies, because of the controversies surrounding them, there are systems in place that don’t permit their usage everywhere. IRC networks routinely test client systems for identified open proxy types.

Mail servers can be configured to routinely check mail senders for proxies with the help of proxycheck software. Mail servers can also consult various DNSBL servers that block spam. Such servers also list open proxies and help in blocking them.

Nevertheless, anonymous open proxies have also been hailed because they enhance ambiguity, in other words security when browsing the web or engaging in other internet services. The use of proxies conceals any users’ true IP address. This is a boon because your IP address can be used against you.

It can help miscreants construe information about any user and accordingly hack into his/her computer. 3 Ways To Fix & Clean Your Windows Registry

Every time you use your computer, install and uninstall programs, move around files etc you are building up a list of registry issues and problems which can be easily fixed.

However, if you ignore these and continue to use your computer on a regular basis, the errors will mount up and it will become more difficult to fix the inevitable problems and errors.

In order to fix your windows registry and restore it, please follow the instructions below:

1. Isolate The Registry As The Problem

In order to isolate the problem, let’s eliminate the problem of spyware and viruses.

I therefore recommend that you run your antivirus and anti-spyware software programs first, make sure they are full system scans and not a ‘quick scan’ which clearly does not scan all files and folders.

If nothing shows up, then you can be pretty certain that your PC problems lie in the registry.

2. Backup Your Windows Registry

Please note: If you use a recommended registry repair program, they will backup your registry for you automatically, saving you the hassle.

In order to manually backup your registry, go to Google and type in “backup your registry” - you will find plenty of information on this.

3. Fix Your Registry Problems

Warning: Only edit, modify and ‘fix’ your windows registry manually if you are an IT professional. This is because the smallest change to your registry can cause severe problems - to the point of your PC not operating. Be careful!

If it’s a simple problem, you’ll hopefully be able to perform a system restore from a date prior to the error(s).

If not, either hire a computer repair company to come to you and fix your PC, or…

Save yourself a lot of money and hassle and use a highly recommended registry cleaner to automatically backup your registry for you, and then isolate each and every problem within it.

Obviously the choice is completely up to you as it depends on how much time and money you have to spare.

New registry cleaner products are coming out on the market all of the time. Make sure that you read reviews on the products as much as you can if you are wanting to purchase some software.

The more reviews that you read, the more you can guage the quality of the product.

Also, even though there are free registry cleaner solutions out there, just be aware that because they are free, no money is being invested in these programs to keep them up-to-date and their databases expanding.

Those products which you pay a small fee for are continually improving and expanding are therefore more likely to find a wider range of errors and problems than a free one.

Clearly though free is great! Just be aware of the issue that lies behind it though.

Asset Tracking Software on Three Levels

So you are thinking about asset tracking software for you business. There are a lot of options with as many price ranges to consider. Every time you call a business for help, they want to sell you a system that costs more then your total infrastructure. Asset Tracking SoftwareWell here are the basics to understand when shopping for the right asset tracking system for your business.

There are a few things to take into consideration when thinking about asset tracking software.

* What asset tracking software makes the most sense for your business? A hosted solution that is based on your server and maintained by your IT department on the network or a stand alone asset tracking software that is on one PC in the building.
* What is the total cost of ownership? Is the up front cost low only because there are a lot of hidden costs for upkeep and upgrade fees later?
* What is the main priority? Do you need a total solution to cover all your bases, or are you looking for a smaller, niche program to fit in with your overall ERP System?
* Is Customization and scalability important to your business plan? Do you want the solution to grow with your business needs in the future?

Once you have a baseline set with the answers to those questions, then you can look at a few of the solutions on the market. The solutions we have reviewed are the Redbeam Asset Tracking software solution, the Intellitrack Asset Tracking Software solution and then a custom package that is tailored for your ERP system and hard coded in.

Well, as you may know, the least expensive route to go is with the Redbeam asset tracking software. This package is a powerful stand along solution that is affordable and meets 90% of any asset tracking needs. The package is very limited in its ability to be customized, but it is based on an Sql Database and data can be dumped into text files for manipulation in MS Excel of other spreadsheet programs. Data can also be uploaded into the database on provided templates. The software comes in a standard addition and a mobile addition. The standard addition begins for a 1 user application at $495.00. This price allows the smallest business to automate their asset tracking with software that is dynamic and rich in features.

The Redbeam asset tracking software is a complete fixed asset database with the ability to use cabled barcode scanners attached to PC workstations. The software keeps asset records up to date and periodically allows users to take a physical inventory of assets. Data fields include barcode ID, location, department, maintenance, purchasing, warranty, lease, deprecation, information technology and 50 other user definable fields. The mobile addition works with the ability to collect data on scanner-enabled mobile computers.

Intellitrack also offers a complete asset tracking software solution. The Intellitrack product has many of the same features that the Redbeam software has, but the main difference is that it is completely scalable for your business. As business needs change, the software can grow with you. Intellitrack’s tracking software can even be RFID enabled taking advantage of the latest in smart label technology. Of course this package has a higher ticket price. The base software starts at $1,800.00 with 1 batch devise license.

Finally the last option we recommend is either using the Intellitrack base and customizing that to meet the full needs of your company or go with a total custom solution where software developers with develop and integrate a tracking software solution to your exact needs. This can range from $20,000 on up depending on how open your current system is.

Using the Redbeam product can accommodate most of the asset tracking applications. Our recommendation is the try the free demo’s by either of these 2 software developers and test them for yourself. We have many clients on both of these packages ranging from general offices tracking computers to police agencies tracking evidence in the evidence rooms. They are very satisfied and find no reason for a custom package to meet there asset tracking software needs.
